Ingredients
Scale
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 cup whole milk
½ cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
1 tablespoon orange zest
1 cup heavy cream (for ganache)
8 ounces semisweet chocolate (for ganache)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until well combined.
Carefully stir in the boiling water and orange zest until smooth.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 30-35 minutes.
Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
For the ganache, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until just boiling, then pour it over the chopped chocolate. Let it sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth.
Once the cakes are cooled, spread some ganache between the layers and cover the top and sides of the cake with the remaining ganache.
Let the ganache set before serving and enjoy!
Notes
For added flavor, consider adding a splash of orange juice to the cake batter.
This cake can be decorated with candied orange slices for a festive touch.
